As the only freestanding hospital in Michigan dedicated exclusively to caring for children, Children's Hospital of Michigan has been specifically designed to cater to pediatric patients. From the kid-friendly emergency room that treats more than 60,000 children each year, to the newly remodeled patient rooms that have areas for parents to rest comfortably in with their child, Children’s Hospital makes a child's temporary transition from home to hospital more manageable with their remarkable attention to detail.

This center is partially funded by the Michigan Department of Education School Readiness Grant (4-year-olds) and the Child Care Development Grant (3-year-olds)

Infant Mental Health Services are supportive interventions designed to strengthen the optimal development of an infant within the context of the family and community. Infants and families served include premature, underweight, medically fragile or chronically ill babies; infants with identified disabilities or developmental delays; adolescent parents; and parents at social or emotional risk in the caregiving role.

Using a multi-disciplinary team approach, these neurosurgeons evaluate and treat children with a variety of neurosurgical problems, including brain and spinal cord tumors, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, craniofacial disorders, trauma, brachial plexus and vascular abnormalities.

The Bridges to Literacy Web-page

The Speech and Language Center offers Speech-Language Pathology services to residents of lower Southeast Michigan and parts of Canada. Services include the assessment and treatment of child language disorders, aphasia, oral and verbal apraxia, dysarthria, articulation problems, cognitive-linguistic deficits, and voice disorders. This clinic also offers two specialized 6-week summer programs: One for pre-school language impaired children, and another for language literacy for pre-teens.

The University Psychiatric Centers’ Early Childhood Intervention program provides services to preschool children with emotional and behavioral problems and their families. The program works to increase parental understanding of the child’s developmental and emotional issues, through education, support, and the observation of child management techniques. The program places a strong emphasis on family involvement and preventing more serious difficulties later in the child’s life.
